Home for Homeless Project-Home for Dulpa Thushari – Panorama’s Dream Project

Gallery

As part of our social support project, Panorama executive committee has decided to build a house for a really deserving family of the district under our “Home for Homeless” project. After evaluating the back ground, it was decided to build a house for Ms. Dulpa Thushari widow of Aji Philip, Vazhamuttam Adoor. Originally we had decided to build the house on available land and later it was turned out that land is not available, we had to find land as well for the house since the case deserved one.

Many have heard the miserable life story of Ms. Dulpa Thushari, a Sri Lankan National who married a Pathanamthitta native, Mr. Aji Philip while working in Dubai in 2003. Both their families deserted them. They have two children. Aji and family returned to Kerala in Nedumbasseri after Aji had lost his job in Dubai. While slowly settling down, Aji was killed in a road accident. As no one came to assist, the good hearted people of Kalady helped Dulpa to bury her husband in the Kalady public crematorium. With no visa and a language barrier, the life of Dulpa has been miserable since then. Her children are in an orphanage. A piece of land, a home and life with her children are the dreams of Dulpa. Helping the needy gives purpose to one’s life, Panorama is committed to social obligations. We have taken up an initiative to make Dulpa’s dreams come true and to bring smiles back on their faces.

The project is in its early stage.

Three day picnic to Wayanad

A 3 day picnic to Wayanad was organized from 01st August to 03rd August, 2013 in which forty members took part.

On the way to Wayanadu a visit was arranged to Kerala Kalamandalam Deemed University at Cheruthuruthy. Kerala Kalamandalam was founded by renowned poet Padmabhooshan Vallathol Narayana Menon along the banks of river Nila (Bharathappuzha) in 1990. Koothambalam, the performance floor and the Museum therein were the other places visited at Kalamandalam. It is a place to be visited by every Malayali and all participants were privileged to have been there.

Wayanadu, a bio-diverse region spread across 2,132 square kilometers on the lofty Western Ghats, it is one of the few districts in Kerala that has been able to retain its pristine nature. Hidden away in the hills of this land are some of the oldest tribes, as yet untouched by civilization. And the very first prehistoric engravings in Kerala discovered in the foothills of Edakkal and around Ambukuthimala bear testimony to a pre-historic culture dating back to the Mesolithic Age. Strikingly scenic, it is known for its sub-tropical savannahs, picturesque hill stations, sprawling spice plantations, luxuriant forests and rich cultural traditions. A holistic confluence of wilderness, history and culture, Wayanad is located on the southern tip of the magnificent Deccan plateau. It has rich hill terrains, rivers, forests, plantations, waterfalls and UN heritage listed Edakkal Caves.

Thamarassery Churam is the gateway of fascinating Wayanadu with nine hair pin bends on a 14 KM long pass. Traveling through this pass was breathtaking.

Edakkal Caves on the Ambukuthimala were the main attraction of the trip which is said to be the only place with Stone Age carvings (rock inscriptions) in South India. The carvings belong to Neolithic and Mesolithic Age includes ancient stone scripts, ancient weaponry figures, symbols, figures of various animals and human beings etc. The trek up the hill, peppered with coffee plantations, is worth an experience and it takes almost 45 minutes to climb the hill. The lush greenery and scenic landscape around and the cool breeze that carries the aroma of coffee will surely make your journey an unforgettable one. Trekking to the caves was an unforgettable experience to all.

The Bamboo Seed Payasam gave all the participants a fresh taste and renewed energy.

Wild life safari at Muthanga in Jeep through rough route was a varied experience to everyone who enjoyed it to the end. Other places visited were Banasura Sagar Dam, Vythiri and Thirunelli Temple.

The refreshing trip has been enjoyed by all and every one now looks forward for the next trip.

Mr. Mathew George served as the coordinator for Picnic.

Sapling Distribution

Pathanamthitta is blessed with its scenic beauty and panoramic views. According to a study report released by the Centre for Science and Environment, New Delhi; Pathanamthitta stands for the best quality oxygen in India. It is the abundance of trees that makes the air pure. However there is a threat to the situation as more lands pave way for buildings under the cloud of development. It is everyone’s responsibility especially that of the residents of Pathanamthitta to keep our district clean and preserve its air. We realize the role of Pravasis also on this issue. On the occasion of World Environment Day 2013 on June 05, we initiated a campaign to plant at least one tree at member homes and homes of those who were interested. We have distributed at least 5 saplings each to all those who have booked for the same. The official inauguration of the same was done by our Chief Patron Mr. Anto Antony MP by handing over the sapling to our Treasurer Mr. Babychan Elanthur on 29 July, 2013 when members were on holidays. Chairman Sebi Abraham, Former General Secretary Mr. C. K. Varghese, Mr. George Cheriyan and Mr. Anil Mathews were present. Apart from distributing the saplings, we have planted saplings at the campuses of Konni Elimullumplackal Govt. Higher Secondary School and Koipram Govt. Higher Secondary School and a large number of students and teaching staff participated.

The event was listed and certified by UNEP. It was a unique initiative by any Non Resident Indian Association for the homeland.

Those who are interested in this campaign in future may please contact us through our “Contact Us” link on the message board.
